SCHEIFELE NAMED ACADEMIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH
The Barrie Colts are proud to announce today that rookie center Mark Scheifele has been selected as the Central Division’s Academic Player of the Month for October. Scheifele maintains great marks as a grade 12 student at Innisdale Secondary School, while leading the Colts in scoring through his first 15 games in the Ontario Hockey League.
“Mark has shown a very mature approach to life in the OHL, balancing his academics with his hockey commitments,” said Colts Academic Advisor Randy McIntyre.
The 17 year-old from Kitchener was originally acquired by the Colts from Saginaw in exchange for goaltender Mavric Parks. The 6’3″ forward sits in a tie for fourth place in rookie scoring with 18 points. His six goals and 12 assists put him in to a tie with Colin Behenna for the team lead in points.
Scheifele joins Tom Wilson of Plymouth, Adam Pelech of Erie and Jan Kaminsky of Belleville as October’s Academic Players of the Month.
