COLTS AT FRONTENACS
The Barrie Colts were in Kingston Sunday afternoon looking to sweep their four-game season-series with the Frontenacs.
Mark Scheifele scored a hat-trick in a wild third period as the Colts edged the Frontenacs 5-3. Colin Behenna and Ryan O`Connor also scored for Barrie.
Scheifele put forth some solid fore-checking pressure to strip the puck from a Kingston defenceman behind his own goal and centered to a wide open Colin Behenna and the Colts captain notched his 16th of the season to make it 1-0 in the first period.
Shortly after Kingston drove hard to the net and became the benefactor of a lucky bounce as a high centering pass bounced off of Alex Lepkowski and sneaked in behind Fotinos. Cody Alcock got credit for his 13th of the season to make it 1-1 after the first.
After a scoreless second period things opened up in the third with a total of six goals. O`Connor broke the 1-1 tie on an unassisted point shot that rung off the post and in to make it 2-1.
Moments later it was Tanner Pearson leading a two-on-one break where he found Scheifele who made no mistake on Bobkov to make it a 3-1 game.
Kingston came back with a pair of goals to tie it late in the frame, Morbeck and Jenkins beat Fotinos to make it 3-3, but the Colts responded short-handed as Scheifele had a clear cut breakaway and went to the back-hand to score the game-winner.
Shortly after Pearson and Scheifele put on some great fore-checking pressure and it was Scheifele stripping the puck and capping off his great game with his third goal of the period.
Barrie sweeps the season-series; they defeated Kingston 7-4 and 6-1 at home, and edged the Fronts` 3-1 at the K-Rock Centre back on November 20th.
Alex Fotinos made his second straight start and picked up his second win of the season, stopping 29 of 32 shots.
