SCHEIFELE AND LOCKE SELECTED TO UNDER-18 TEAM
The Barrie Colts announced on Wednesday that two of their players have been selected to play for Team Canada at the World Under-18 Championship.
Forwards Mark Scheifele and Eric Locke will join their Head Coach and Team Canada assistant Dale Hawerchuk in Germany for the tournament that runs from April 14th – April 24th.
Both players finished in the top ten in rookie scoring last season, with Scheifele leading all first-year players in assists with 53.
The 6’3” Scheifele finished second in team scoring and fourth among rookies with 75 points in his first year in the OHL. The Kitchener native was acquired by the Colts at the start of the season from the Saginaw Spirit in exchange for Mavric Parks.
Toronto resident Eric Locke was acquired at the trade deadline from the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for Taylor Carnevale. Locke finished 8th in rookie scoring and fourth in team scoring with a combined 54 points in 66 games.
Team Canada will play three exhibition games on April 9th, 11th and 12th before kicking off their tournament play against the Czezh Republic on Friday, April 15th.
Colts Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk was named an Assistant Coach for the tournament and will work under Calgary Hitmen Head Coach Mike Williamson.
