OTTAWA BESTS BARRIE 6-4
The Barrie Colts hosted the Ottawa 67’s Saturday night looking to climb a little closer to them in the Eastern Conference standings.
The 67’s came in to the game with a two-point lead over the Colts and were without their starting goalie Petr Mrazek.
Barrie jumped on goalie Michael Nishi with three first-period goals and held a one-goal lead after the first stanza.
Ottawa would pot four goals in the second period and went on to defeat the Colts 6-4.
Steven Beyers got things started with his ninth of the year from Zach Hall and Aaron Ekblad on the power play.
Just over two minutes later Ivan Telegin notched his 13th from Beyers and Reid McNeill.
The 67’s then responded with back-to-back goals from Tyler Toffoli and Dalton Smith.
Alex Lepkowski scored his third of the year and first on home-ice with 15 seconds to go in the period to make it 3-2 Barrie. Eric Locke and Gregg Sutch picked up the assists.
Ottawa out-scored Barrie 4-1 in the second period and held a 6-4 lead after 40 minutes of play.
The 67’s scored a pair of goals in 32 seconds and then Zach Hall orchestrated a beautiful goal to tie the game at four. Ivan Telegin set up Hall on a great give and go.
Toffoli scored his second of the game and league-leading 29th goal of the season, and then Nicholas Foglia made it 6-4 Ottawa.
Barrie will head to Peterborough on Sunday to conclude their pre-Christmas schedule for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop against the Petes.
