COLTS PICK 25TH IN CHL IMPORT DRAFT
The Barrie Colts moved back in the CHL Import Draft and will now pick at position 25. This following a handful of trades on Monday that saw Barrie ship the first overall pick to the London Knights in exchange for a pair of draft picks, defenceman Reid McNeill and London’s 25th overall pick in today’s draft.
The Knights got the draft started at 9:00 a.m. by using the number one pick to draft Olli Maatta, a 6’2″ defenceman from Finland. You can follow along with all the picks by clicking here.
Barrie traded away the only Import player on their roster on Monday, sending last year’s 11th overall pick in the Import Draft Petr Beranek to the Kingston Frontenacs for a third round pick in the OHL Priority Selection.
That trade paved the way for the Colts to make their biggest move on Monday, acquiring 6’4″ Russian forward Ivan Telegin from the Saginaw Spirit. Colts Trades.
Before drafting Petr Beranek 11th last season the Colts drafted Alexander Burmistrov with the 12th overall pick in the 2009 CHL Import Draft. Burmistrov would flourish in his one season in Barrie and eventually became an eighth overall selection of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Past Picks.
