REGULAR SEASON STARTS TONIGHT
The Barrie Colts opened up their regular season schedule in fine fashion Thursday night in front of a great crowd at the Barrie Molson Centre.
Without Mark Scheifele the top line of Zach Hall, Tanner Pearson, and Colin Behenna combined for five goals and 14 points.
Pearson scored 5:29 in to the game on the first shot by the Colts, beating Kingston goalie Blake Richard. Behenna and Hall recorded the assists.
Kingston would fight back with a pair of goals coming 29 seconds apart at the end of the opening period to make it 2-1 Kingston after the first.
Coach Dale Hawerchuk must have said all the right things during the first intermission as his team came out firing and once again it was the top line that came through.
Zach Hall scored back-to-back goals 41 seconds apart to re-take a lead for the Colts. 2:18 after that defenceman Alex Yuill scored in his first career game. Brandon Devlin scored the lone assist on the 22nd overall pick’s first of the season.
Behenna and Pearson would also notch markers in the middle period as the Colts scored a total of five times in the second and held a 6-4 lead after 40 minutes.
Forward Victor Terreri would score his first as a Colt in the third period, Gregg Sutch picked up the lone assist on the only goal of the third.
Hall and Pearson each had two goals and three assists, while Behenna had a goal and three helpers.
Mathias Niederberger got the start in goal for Barrie and stopped 22 of 26 shots to pick up his first career win in the OHL.
Barrie will travel to Brampton on Friday to play the Battalion.
