BARRIE DOMINATED KINGSTON WITH A 6 – 2 VICTORY
The Barrie Colts jumped on the Kingston Frontenacs early, scoring just 19 seconds in on the games first shot. Captain Ryan O’Connor continues his stellar play, as he scored top corner on Colin Furlong with a nice wrist shot. Andreas Athanasiou and Mark Scheifele picked up the assists. At 12:27, the Colts would go up 2 – 0 on Kingston when Steven Beyers scored his fifth goal of the season. Beyers, who walked out of the corner into the slot, ripped it home past the Frontenacs netminder. Barrie continued to pour it on in the first, adding another goal late in the period on the power play. Anthony Camara made a nice pass to Andreas Athanasiou who was in front of the net and redirected it home. The Colts took a 3 – 0 lead into the second period.
The second period saw plenty of scoring chances for both teams, but neither team could put one on the board. The Kingston Frontenacs made a goaltending change to start the period, putting in netminder Mike Morrison. The swap seemed to spark the Frontenacs, but they could not beat Colts goalie Mathias Niederberger. Niederberger came up big for his team, most notably with a diving save early in the second. The Barrie Colts would hold onto their 3 – 0 lead heading into the third.
The Kingston Frontenacs would finally solve Mathias Niederberger at 6:10 into the final period. A nice cross crease pass from Cody Alcock found Roland McKeown at the side of the net, who put it home. Barrie would take over the game from there, starting with Anthony Camara scoring on the power play at 7:30. Just a few minutes later, Andreas Athanasiou scored his second on the night dancing through the Kingston defense, before ripping it past goaltender Mike Morrison. Forward Brendan Perlini would also put one in the back of the net, scoring his first career OHL goal and point. Mark Scheifele found Perlini back door on a backhand pass, where Perlini made no mistake.
Kingston would add one late, but the Barrie Colts would take this game 6 – 2. Ryan O’Connor, Anthony Camara, Andreas Athanasiou and Mark Scheifele all had 3 points each on the night. Goaltender Mathias Niederberger made 29 saves in the victory. Next up for the Barrie Colts is the Oshawa Generals. Oshawa will head to the Barrie Molson Centre next Thursday December 13th for a 7:30 start. Click here for tickets.
