Oshawa Gets the Best of Barrie 4-1
The Oshawa Generals complete the season sweep versus the Barrie Colts with a 4-1 victory Sunday night in Oshawa.
It was a Sunday evening tilt between the Colts and the Generals this weekend, in a matchup that Oshawa has dominated thus far this season. In 3 meetings this season Oshawa is outscored Barrie 11-2.
With the Colts chasing one of the final playoff spots, every game here on out feels like a must win following two losses already this weekend.
It was a pretty even played first period in the early going, but it was two goals by the home club less than a minute apart changed things in a hurry.
First it was Brandon Saigeon snapping one home over the glove hand of Kai Edmonds on a two on one to open the scoring. Just 56 seconds later, Giovanni Vallati also found the back of the net to give Oshawa the 2-0 advantage heading into the first break of the game.
The second period would start the way the first period finished….more Oshawa. It was Oshawa’s third power play in the second period alone that resulted in the 3-1 lead. A point shot from Vallati hit Kyle MacLean on its way to the net and past Edmonds who never saw it.
Barrie wouldn’t give in though. A goal with just over four minutes to go in the period by Jason Willms who slid in his 13th of the season after a centering pass from Ben Hawerchuk to cut into the Generals lead.
In the third period it was more from the home team as Barrie couldn’t get any closer. Saigeon put in his second of the game to make it a 4-1 final.
Barrie is back in action on Wednesday night as they head to Owen Sound to take on the Attack. Those two teams met last Thursday with Owen Sound taking the two points in a 4-2 win in Barrie.
