12 Colts at NHL Rookie Camps
The Barrie Colts are proud to announce that 12 (current or recent graduates) are off to NHL Rookie Camps!
Beau Akey – 2023 2nd Round Pick (Edmonton Oilers)
Entering his third season with the Colts, Akey enters his first rookie camp with the Edmonton Oilers after being selected this past June in the second round. Akey previously participated in the Oilers Development Camp earlier this summer.
Ethan Cardwell – 2021 4th Round Pick (San Jose Sharks)
After finishing his OHL career with a career-high 90 Points (43 Goals, 47 Assists) in the 2022-23 campaign, Cardwell would sign his ELC with the Sharks on April 14th, 2023. Ethan would end his OHL career with 94-106-200 in 184 games played across the Saginaw Spirit and the Barrie Colts.
Brandt Clarke – 2021 1st Round Pick (LA Kings)
Joining the Colts after his World Junior win with Team Canada, Clarke would go on to record a historic season registering 61 Points (23 Goals, 38 Assists) in only 31 games played in 2022-23. Clarke would finish his Colts career with 40-118-154 in 143 appearances and left the Colts as the All-Time Points Leader by a Defenceman.
Tyson Foerster – 2020 1st Round Pick (Philadelphia Flyers)
Foerster made the most of his time with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2022-23 season by registering 7 Points (3 Goals, 4 Assists) in his first 8 NHL appearances. Spending the majority of last season in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, he recorded 48 points (20 Goals, 28 Assists) in 66 contests. Foerster recorded 52-62-114 in 139 games as a member of the Colts.
Jacob Frasca – Free Agent (Toronto Maple Leafs)
Entering his 5th season with the Colts and serving as the current longest member of the team, Frasca returns to the Toronto Maple Leafs after participating in the Leafs Development Camp earlier this summer. Frasca registered a career-high 69 Points (27 Goals, 42 Assists) while playing in all 68 games last season.
Mack Guzda – Signed ELC ’22 (Florida Panthers)
Guzda played in his first year as a pro last season with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, appearing in 29 games with a 2.88 GAA and a 16-9-3 record. Guzda signed his ELC with the Panthers during the 2021-22 campaign as a member of the Colts. As a Colt, he put up an impressive 2.52 GAA and 20-9-2 record.
Beau Jelsma – Free Agent (Carolina Hurricanes)
Jelsma enters his third season as a member of the Colts. He recorded a career-high 61 points (31 Goals, 30 Assists) in 67 contests last season. Jelsma previously attended the Florida Panthers Rookie Camp (Sept. ’22)
Connor Punnett – Free Agent (Detroit Red Wings)
Entering his overage season this year, Punnett broke out during the 2022-23 campaign by compiling 48 Points (14 Goals, 34 Assists) in 66 games. Punnett previously attended the Red Wings development camp earlier this summer.
Eduard Sale – 2023 1st Round Pick (Seattle Kraken)
Eduard Sale has only played in two preseason games for the Colts but has registered a goal in each contest. Sale enters his first rookie camp with the Seattle Kraken after they selected him with the 20th overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft this past June.
Tyler Savard – Free Agent (Ottawa Senators)
Savard joined the Colts last season after being acquired from the Soo Greyhounds. Savard took his game to the next level in the playoffs by registering 11 Points (4 Goals, 7 Assists) in 13 games. Savard previously attended the Philadelphia Flyers Development Camp (July ’22)
Anson Thornton – Signed ELC ’21 (Arizona Coyotes)
Thornton took over the crease for the Colts during the 2022-23 campaign and left his mark. Thornton would go on to record a 3.13 GAA and a 29-9-3 record. To top it off, Thornton would go on to score the first Colts Goalie Goal in franchise history during the first round of playoffs vs the Hamilton Bulldogs. Watch it here.
Evan Vierling – Signed AHL ’23 (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Vierling led the Colts in scoring during the 2022-23 campaign with 95 Points (35 Goals, 60 Assists) in 60 games. His performance would go on to help him earn an AHL Contract from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Vierling would top off his last season in the OHL by winning both the OHL & CHL Most Sportsmanlike Award. On the ice, Vierling would finish with 75-138-213 in 218 games across the Flint Firebirds and the Barrie Colts.
