Changes in Hockey Operations Department
The Barrie Colts have announced changes within the hockey operations department.
Kent Hutton has been hired as the Regional Scout for the GTHL region. Kent has been involved in Junior hockey since he first began coaching the Wexford Raiders in 1990. Kent’s coaching career includes coaching professionally in Italy, various Junior A coaching stints and most recently as an Assistant Coach with the Toronto Young Nationals U13 AAA program.
“We needed to fill the position of our GTHL Scout and when Kent expressed his interest in the position, we began the discussions. I’m very pleased that he will join our Scouting Staff for the 2023/24 season. As a teacher at Upper Canada College and the respect he has earned in the hockey world, we are ecstatic that Kent will join our group and help us prepare for the 2024 OHL Priority Selection” said Mark Seidel; Director of Player Personnel and Head Scout.
Rob Ferguson has been promoted to Manager of Team Services from his previous role of Coordinator of Billeting and Education. Ferguson first joined the Colts as a member of the billet family for 12 seasons and began working for the team in 2018.
“Rob is an invaluable member of our organization that our players and families truly benefit from. Rob is a terrific person who brings a positive energy every time he’s around the arena and I’m grateful for all the work he does for myself and the team.” Added Head Coach & GM, Marty Williamson
The Barrie Colts would like to announce the retirement of Marc Bissonnette from the scouting staff. Having started working with Dale Hawerchuk and the Colts in 2011, Marc has been an integral part of the Colts scouting staff for 12 years in the Ottawa/HEO area and was instrumental in the selection of current Colts Cole Beaudoin and Roenick Jodoin along with many others.
“Marc has always been an invaluable resource for us in the Ottawa area and has been a key part of our Staff and we respect his decision to retire but we will miss him,” said Marty Williamson, Head Coach and GM. “Marc has been a mentor for me since I came to Barrie and his work ethic and evaluation abilities have been a huge part of our Staff. It is bittersweet that Marc is leaving us but I respect his desire to spend more time with his beautiful family” said Mark Seidel; Head Scout and Director of Player Personnel.
Ethan Abrams spent the 2022/23 season being mentored by Marc and will assume the role of Regional Scout for the Colts for the HEO/Ottawa area in 2023/24.
The entire Barrie Colts organization would like to thank Marc for all his commitment and time that he has spent with the Colts and wish him a well-earned retirement!
