Del Monte leads Barrie Colts to 7-3 win over Sudbury Wolves
The Barrie Colts exploded for five goals in the first period en route to a 7-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) action Thursday night at Sadlon Arena.
Colts forward Ryan Del Monte led the way with a goal and three assists.
Evan Veirling, Colts forward, started off the scoring with his third goal of the season 2:24 into the game.
Just over three minutes after that, forward Nicholas Porco scored his first goal of the year to give the Colts a 2-0 lead.
Colts defencemen Brandt Clarke also got on the board with his first goal of the season at the 6:23 mark.
Up 3-1, Colts forward Nathan Allensen restored the three-goal lead with under eight minutes left in the first period. It was his first goal of the 2021-22 campaign.
The Wolves got one back about four minutes later to make it 4-2, but forward Oliver Smith put the Colts back up by three shortly after with his fourth goal in four games this year.
After a scoreless second period, the Wolves scored one in the third. The Colts scored twice.
Del Monte scored his second goal of the season. Porco added his second of the game and finished with three points on the night.
Clarke and Allensen also had two assists each on Thursday.
Matthew Sbrocca got the start in net for the Colts and stopped 17-of-20 shots in the win.
Thursday’s victory was the first of three games in three nights for the Colts.
They travel to Mississauga for a game against the Steelheads on Friday before returning home to face the North Bay Battalion Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
