Colts Acquire Sokolov From Wolves
Barrie, ON– Barrie Colts General Manager & Head Scout Jason Ford announced today that they have completed a trade with the Sudbury Wolves
The Barrie Colts acquire Russian forward Dmitry Sokolov and a conditional 3rd round pick(2022) in exchange for Russian forward Alexey Lipanov.
Sokolov,19 was selected by the Sudbury Wolves in the 1st round (3rd overall) in 2015 CHL Import Draft. The 6’0” Russian sniper appeared in 167 games with the Wolves during his 3 years with the club, collecting 98 goals and 64 assist for 162 points.
The native of Omsk, Russia was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the 7th round (196th overall) in 2016.
The trade sends first year forward Alexey Lipanov the other way to the Sudbury Wolves. In 35 games with Barrie this season he tallied 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points. The native of Moscow, Russia was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd round (76th overall) in this past years NHL Entry Draft.
This is the second trade the two teams have made this season, after Barrie sent Kirill Nizhnikov to the Wolves on December 7th in exchange for draft picks. It won’t be long before the two teams meet, as they will see each other tomorrow night at the Barrie Molson Centre for a 7:30pm puck drop.
Barrie will then finish the weekend off with a couple more Central Division opponents as they head to Niagara on Friday before finishing off the weekend at home against the North Bay Battalion.
