Colts Finnish Import Draft with Two Selections
The Barrie Colts have selected two Finnish players in the 2024 CHL Import Draft.
Emil Hemming, who was selected 29th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars was the Colts’ first selection at 15th overall. Hemming split the 2023-24 season between the TPS U20 and TPS (Liiga) clubs. Across the 13 games for the U20 club, Hemming registered 18 points (11 goals, 7 assists). Hemming is currently attending the Dallas Stars rookie camp.
“Emil is a world-class talent who the Dallas Stars took in the first round last week. He plays a strong 200-foot game and has a proven track record of being able to score at any level he’s played at. We’re excited to start working with Emil, his family, and representation on getting him to become a member of our hockey club.” Commented Head Coach & GM, Marty Williamson
Patrik Kerkola spent the majority of the 2023-24 season between the U18 and U20 KalPa clubs and was chosen with the Colts second selection at 75th. He represented Finland at the IIHF U17 tournament where he amassed a 3.20 GAA and .904 SAV through four tournament games. Kerkola made Liiga history earlier this season by becoming the youngest goalie to start and play the entire game.
“Patrik is one of the most coveted 2007-born goalies ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft. He has represented Finland on the international stage and has already played one game in the top division for KalPa. He’s a big goalie with strong fundamental skills who we’re excited to start working with.” Added Head Coach & GM, Marty Williamson.
