Aaron Ekblad Wins Lord Stanley!
Former Colts star, Aaron Ekblad has won the 2024 Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers!
Ekblad, who was selected 1st overall in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection by the Colts, remains the only exceptional status selection in franchise history. In his three seasons in the OHL, he would win the OHL Rookie of the Year Award, OHL Most Outstanding Defenseman Award, and captured the Ivan Hlinka Gold Medal as a member of the Colts.
With the win, he becomes the first exceptional status player in the CHL to win the Stanley Cup.
The blueliner suited up for the Colts from 2011-2014 where he registered 116 points (40 goals, 76 assists) in 175 games. In his final season, he dawned the captaincy before being selected 1st Overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2014 NHL Draft. After his first season with the Panthers, he would claim the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year and a Gold Medal with Hockey Canada at the World Championship.
Ekblad just completed his 10th season with the Panthers and has worn an “A” for the past eight seasons. He becomes the fifth Colts alumni to win the Stanley Cup and will be the seventh Stanley Cup banner to be hung in the rafters of Sadlon Arena.
