Winner of the coveted CIBC Marcel-Robert Trophy revealed

The player who best combines on-ice performance with success in school is being recognized by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today. Awarded annually since 1981, the CIBC Marcel-Robert Trophy honours the QMJHL Scholastic Player of the Year. Past recipients of the award include a few current team staff members including Marc Denis, Daniel Lacroix and Jocelyn Thibault.

Former Chicoutimi Saguenéens goaltender Marc Denis is actually the one presenting this year’s recipient. The Montreal native received the Scholastic Player of the Year Award in 1995-1996 after playing 51 regular season games and getting 16 more starts during the President Cup Playoffs with the Sags. He played three seasons in the QMJHL and represented Team Canada twice at the IIHF World Junior Championship, winning two gold medals. He went on to play 349 games in the NHL, registering 112 wins, a 3.02 goals-against-average and a 0.902% save percentage. Denis came back to his roots following his playing career and is now the Vice-President of Hockey for the Saguenéens.
