2024-25 CHL Top-10 Rankings presented by Delta Hotels by Marriott: Week 12
Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 12 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.
With 21 wins over their last 23 games, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) find themselves at No. 1 for a fifth week in a row. Right behind them is the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), who alongside the Knights share the best point percentage of any club in the CHL at .806. While, rounding out the top three, are the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL), whose 25 wins are tied with London for the most in the CHL.
The rise of the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL and the entry of the Barrie Colts of the OHL are among the more notable changes to this week’s rankings. With nine victories over their last 10 games, the Spokane Chiefs are up a spot in eighth this week. Meanwhile, having collected a point in nine of their last 10 games (7-1-1-1), the Barrie Colts are making their Top-10 debut of the season in ninth.
The next rankings will be released the week of January 6, following the holiday break of all three CHL Member Leagues and the 2025 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. The QMJHL has officially begun its holiday break, while the OHL and WHL have games throughout this week. The WHL will be the first to come back from break with 10 games on Friday, December 27, before the QMJHL and OHL will mark their return on Saturday, December 28.
CHL Top-10 Rankings – Week 12
1. London Knights (OHL): Having gone 2-1-0-0 against a pair of teams ranked in the CHL Top-10 Rankings over the last week, the London Knights (25-6-0-0) continue to hold down the No. 1 spot for what is now a fifth week in a row. Specifically, in the absence of Philadelphia Flyers prospect Oliver Bonk, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan, and San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson (who are set to represent Canada at the 2025 World Juniors), London secured a pair of victories against the No.6-ranked Rangers (3-2) and No.7-ranked Spitfires (4-2). The only loss of the week came in Windsor against the Spitfires (3-2) on Saturday. The Knights are now one of only two teams in the CHL with 25 points, and they also ranked tied for first with a CHL-best .806 point percentage. They got 21 victories over their last 23 games dating back to October 20. In the last seven days, Edmonton Oilers prospects Sam O’Reilly (11G-14A in 29 GP) and William Nicholl (12G-20A in 31 GP) picked up points in both Knights’ wins. Specifically, Nicholl is currently on a six-game point streak, having collected two goals and seven points over that stretch. This week, in the absence of some of their stars ahead of the 2025 World Juniors, London will wrap things up before their holiday break with games against the Otters and the Sting. Over the holidays and after the break in the OHL, the Knights will also likely be without Kasper Haltunnen (Finland) and Jesse Nurmi (Finland), who both appear poised to represent Finland at the 2025 World Juniors.
2. Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL): As one of only two teams in the CHL Top-10 Rankings to go undefeated over the last seven days, the Moncton Wildcats (24-5-2-0) are up a couple of spots to find themselves in second this week. The Wildcats have ranked among the top three clubs in the CHL Top 10 for 10 of the last 11 weeks since October 8. Moncton holds a CHL-best .806 point percentage this season (along with London) and their +57 goal differential ranks second in the CHL trailing only the No.3-ranked Silvertips (+72). Over the last week, no skater in the QMJHL had more points than 2025 NHL Draft prospect Caleb Desnoyers (17G-25A in 26 GP), who registered five points (2G-3A) in two games. For his efforts, Desnoyers was named the QMJHL’s Videotron Player of the Week. The 17-year-old from St-Hyacinthe, Que., now has points in five of six games in December, having collected 11 points (3G-8A) over that stretch. Right behind Desnoyers was St. Louis Blues prospect Juraj Pekarcik (12G-23A in 29 GP), who ranked second on the team with four points (1G-3A) last week. The 19-year-old from Slovakia now has registered a pair of points in three straight games, along with four of his last five contests. As they head into the break, Pekarcik (Slovakia) is also set to be one of two Wildcats, along with Julius Sumpf (Germany), who appear set to represent their country at this year’s 2025 World Juniors in Ottawa, Ont.
Games this week: N/A (next game is Dec. 28 vs. Saint John)
3. Everett Silvertips (WHL): With two losses in three games last week, the Everett Silvertips (25-5-2-1) fell one spot to third in this week’s CHL Top-10 Rankings. Specifically, the Silvertips dropped consecutive contests for just the second time this season – falling 3-2 against the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday before losing 3-2 against the Wenatchee Wild on Friday. Despite the pair of losses, the Silvertips are one of just two teams in the CHL with five regulation losses or fewer to their name (along with Moncton). Additionally, the Silvertips hold a CHL-best 25 wins during the 2024-25 campaign, which are tied for the most along with the No.1-ranked London Knights. During their three games last week, 20-year-old Tyler MacKenzie (24G-25A in 33 GP) and 15-year-old rookie Landon DuPont (6G-26A in 32 GP) led the team in scoring with four points (1G-3A for each). As the Silvertips head into the holiday break, MacKenzie continues to rank among the WHL’s top three leading scorers with 49 points this season. Meanwhile, by averaging a point per game, DuPont sits second in the WHL for rookie scoring with 32 points. Over the holidays and after the break in the WHL, the Silvertips will likely be without Seattle Kraken prospect Julius Miettinen (10G-24A in 30 GP), who appears poised to represent Finland at the 2025 World Juniors. Additionally, the status of 2025 NHL Draft prospect Carter Bear (22G-24A in 26 GP) will be one to follow, as he remains out of the lineup with an upper-body injury.
4. Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL): Having split their games last week against the Sherbrooke Phoenix (3-0 loss) and the Québec Remparts (5-1 win), the Drummondville Voltigeurs (23-6-1-2) dropped one spot in this week’s CHL Top-10 Rankings. Their regulation loss to the Phoenix on Saturday is the Voltigeurs’ lone one over their last 10 games, as they have won eight games over that stretch (8-1-0-1). Drummondville also continues to rank among the top five in goal differential, as their +42 rating stands as the fourth-best mark in the CHL. 20-year-old forward Sam Oliver (28G-12A in 32 GP) heads into the break as the QMJHL’s leading goal scorer at 28 goals, which places him in a tie for second in the CHL. Meanwhile, 20-year-old captain Luke Woodworth (10G-35A in 30 GP) leads the QMJHL in assists with 35, which also ranks second in the CHL. The Voltigeurs have also benefited from the play of one other 20-year-old through the first half of the season, namely that of their goalie Riley Mercer (15-5-1-1 record, 2.12 GAA, .937 SV%, 3 SO in 22 GP). Mercer leads the CHL with a .937 SV%, while his 2.12 GAA, four shutouts, and 15 wins place him among the top five in the QMJHL. As they head into their holiday break, fans of the Voltigeurs will be keeping an eye on Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Ethan Gauthier, who was one of two QMJHL to be named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2025 World Juniors.
Games this week: N/A (next game is Dec. 28 vs. Rimouski)
5. Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL): As one of two teams ranked in the CHL Top-10 to win all of their games last week, the Rimouski Océanic (22-8-0-1) moved up one place to jump back into the top five for the third time in five weeks. The 2025 Memorial Cup hosts won consecutive home games against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar this weekend by first shutting them out 2-0 on Friday before edging them 3-2 on Saturday. They now hold an impressive 12-2-0-0 record at the Colisée Financière Sun Life this season. 2026 NHL Draft prospect William Lacelle (13-1-0-1 record, 1.98 GAA, .921 SV%, 3 SO in 15 GP) earned the victory in consecutive starts against the Drakkar, including his third shutout of the season on Friday by stopping all 26 shots he faced. Lacelle’s three shutouts place him in a tie for first in the QMJHL in that category, while his 1.98 GAA is the best of any goalie in that league as well. As they look ahead to the 2025 Memorial Cup, the Océanic were busy making a number of acquisitions on Monday, highlighted by the addition of the QMJHL’s leading scorer Jonathan Fauchon (25G-25A in 31 GP). Yesterday, Rimouski also acquired Victoriaville Tigers captain Maël Lavigne (12G-22A in 32 GP), who is averaging just over a point per game this season, along with trading for Lou Lévesque (6G-9A in 30 GP) and Jack Martin (5G-7A in 30 GP) from the Halifax Mooseheads. As they head into the break, the Océanic will likely be without three of their players throughout the holidays and into January, as Vegas Golden Knights prospect Mathieu Cataford (Canada), Vancouver Canucks prospect Basile Sansonnens (Switzerland), and Pavel Simek (Czechia) seem poised to represent their country at the 2025 World Juniors.
Games this week: N/A (next game is Dec. 28 @ Drummondville)
6. Kitchener Rangers (OHL): Although they split their games last week, having defeated the Kingston Frontenacs (3-2 OT) and fallen to the No.1-ranked Knights (3-2), the Kitchener Rangers (22-6-2-1) are down one place in sixth. With seven wins over the last 10 games (7-3-0-0), Kitchener holds the second-highest point percentage in the OHL at .758. They have also allowed 2.71 goals per game so far through the 2024-25 season, which is the best mark of any club in the OHL. Over the last week, Chicago Blackhawks prospect Jack Pridham (8G-7A in 12 GP) continued his strong play. Since joining the Rangers on November 15, Pridham has been held off the scoresheet on just three occasions. The 19-year-old from Stouffville, Ont., has also scored a goal in three straight games. Meanwhile, prior to suffering a 3-2 loss against the Knights, 20-year-old goaltender Jackson Parsons (18-6-1-0 record, 2.08 GAA, .927 SV%, 4 SO in 25 GP) had won six straight starts, which included making 26 saves against the Frontenacs on Friday night. This week, the Rangers will travel to Sarnia to play the Sting before welcoming the 67’s to Kitchener to cap off their week. Over the holidays and after the break in the OHL, the Rangers will also likely be without Jakub Chromiak (Slovakia), who appears poised to represent Slovakia at the 2025 World Juniors.
7. Windsor Spitfires (OHL): With seven victories over their last 10 contests (7-2-0-1), the Windsor Spitfires (22-7-2-1) are ranked seventh for the third time in four weeks. In the past seven days, the Spitfires picked up wins against the Otters (5-1) and No.1-ranked Knights (3-2). Their only defeat of the week was a 3-2 loss to those same Knights in London on Friday. The Spitfires rank tied for the fourth in the CHL with a +42 goal differential, trailing only the London Knights in the OHL (who hold a +45). Windsor holds the most wins on home ice in the CHL with 13 during the 2024-25 campaign. Right before he left for USA Hockey’s selection camp for the 2025 World Juniors earlier this week, Chicago Blackhawks prospect AJ Spellacy (11G-11A in 29) recorded a point and scored a goal in three of his last four outings. Specifically, the 18-year-old from Westlake, Ohio, has five goals and one assist in four games since December 8. Although he saw his point streak come to a close on Saturday, Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas (19G-25A in 29 GP) registered a point in nine straight games between November 22 to December 13, having collected seven goals and 21 points over that stretch. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Greentree (20G-31A in 31 GP) collected three points over the last week as he continues to rank among the OHL’s top-three scorers this season. This week, the Spitfires will host the Storm before heading on their holiday break.
8. Spokane Chiefs (WHL): As the only team in the CHL with nine wins over their last 10 games, the Spokane Chiefs (22-10-0-0) have climbed up a spot in this week’s CHL Top-10 Rankings. Their strong play of late has catapulted the Chiefs into second place in the WHL’s overall standings, where they trail only the Everett Silvertips. Prior to losing on Saturday against the Prince George Cougars (3-1), the Chiefs had strung together 10 victories in a row. They have scored an average of 4.27 goals per game over their last 11 contests since November 16, which is part of the reason why they have won 10 of those 11 games. In the absence of Seattle Kraken prospect Berkly Catton (14G-33A in 28 GP), who is with Team Canada as part of the 2025 World Juniors, Kazakhstan forward Asanali Sarkenov (6G-9A in 21 GP) led the way in scoring with a pair of goals over the last week. In addition to Catton, Sarkenov appears set to represent Kazakhstan at the 2025 World Juniors, and he’ll be someone else that the Chiefs will likely have to play without over the holiday break and into January. This week, the Chiefs will wrap up their schedule before their holiday break with a showdown tonight against the Winterhawks in Portland.
9. Barrie Colts (OHL): Having picked up a point in six straight games (4-0-1-1), including four victories over that stretch, the Barrie Colts are making their Top-10 debut of the season in ninth. As one of only eight teams in the CHL with a point percentage above .700 during the 2024-25 season, the Colts have steadily climbed up the OHL overall standings, having earned a point in nine of their last 10 (7-1-1-1). Dating back to October 26, the Colts are winners of 13 of their last 19, having also collected a point in 15 of those contests (13-4-1-1). Over the last weekend, Dallas Stars prospect Tristan Bertucci (2G-16A in 30 GP) led the team with three points over both of the Colts’ losses to the Bulldogs (2-1 OT) and 67’s (5-4 SO). Similarly, Edmonton Oilers prospect Dalyn Wakely (13G-10A in 22 GP) picked up a point in both of those games as he now ranks third on the team with 23 points in 2024-25. With Utah Hockey Club prospect Cole Beaudoin and Edmonton Oilers prospect Beau Akey away with Team Canada for the 2025 World Juniors, along with Sam Hillebrandt at USA Hockey’s World Juniors selection camp, the Colts will first head to Owen Sound for a contest against the Attack, before returning home to face the IceDogs on Thursday. Over the holidays and after the break in the OHL, the Colts will also likely be without Emil Hemming (Finland), who appears poised to represent Finland at the 2025 World Juniors.
10. Chicoutimi Saguenéens (QMJHL): Having suffered a pair of losses this past weekend, first a shootout loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (5-4 SO) and a regulation defeat to the Québec Remparts (4-2), the Chicoutimi Saguenéens (17-6-3-5) have fallen to tenth in this week’s rankings. Although they have earned a point in eight of their last 10 games, the Saguenéens have only picked up four victories over that stretch (4-2-1-3). Heading into the holiday break, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Emmanuel Vermette (19G-19A in 31 GP) leads the Saguéneens in scoring with 38 points so far this season. He picked up a goal and an assist in the Sags’ 5-4 shootout loss to the Armada. Meanwhile, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Nathan Lecompte (9G-20A in 31 GP) is right behind him with 29 points, having registered a pair of multi-point outings in two of his last three games. There is no doubt that Chicoutimi has been one of the best teams in the CHL on home ice so far this season. They are the only club that has yet to lose in regulation on home ice during the 2024-25 campaign, having registered a 10-0-2-3 record through 15 home games. Over the holiday break, Chicoutimi is likely to play in the absence of Latvian defenceman Peteris Bulans (2G-14A in 29 GP), who appears set to represent his country at the 2025 World Juniors.
