The league announces winner of the 2019–2020 Michel-Bergeron Trophy
Sherbrooke Phœnix goaltender Samuel Hlavaj was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year yesterday. Today, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announces the recipient of the Michel-Bergeron Trophy, awarded to the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The league invited none other than Michel Bergeron himself to announce this year’s winner. The “Tiger” paved the way for several QMJHL coaches who eventually graduated to the NHL following their major junior careers. Bergeron coached four seasons in the league between 1975 and 1980, winning the President Cup in 1978. He subsequently spent eleven seasons in the National Hockey League as Head Coach of the Quebec Nordiques and the New York Rangers.
