Q & A With Charles Guèvremont:
Q1: Tell us about your Minor Hockey career.
A1: I played my minor hockey in Verdun and Lasalle, two towns near downtown Montreal. I wore the colors of the Verdun- Lasalle Cobras for my Peewee ‘AA’ and Bantam ‘AA’ years. Unfortunetaly, I never had the chance to win a championship in my minor hockey career, but I had the privilege to win a tournament in Valleyfield during my first year in Peewee. They are all great moments that I will never forget.
Q2: Where did you play your Midget hockey?
A2: In my first year Midget I play in the Midget Espoir League for the Lac St-Louis Predators. In my second year of Midget hockey, I played for the Magog Cantonniers in the Quebec Midget ‘AAA’ Hockey league. I spent a wonderful time over there and met some great people. Former teammates of mine with the Cantonniers who are playing right now in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League are Alexandre Bélanger (Rouyn-Noranda), William Couture (Sherbrooke) and Danick Martel (Blainville-Boisbriand).
Q3: You were drafted by the Screaming Eagles at the 2011 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft in round three, 39th overall. What were your thoughts on being drafted by Cape Breton and why did you decide to stay another year in Midget following being drafted?
A3: Draft day is always a surprise. Before the draft in 2011, I had the chance to meet with a lot of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams, so I did not really know where I was going to end up. When Cape Breton called my name at the draft in the third round, I was extremly happy. It was a great feeling and a special moment. I decided to return to Midget with Magog because I wanted to have a strong year in the Midget `AAA` league and be a leader for my team as well as gain a lot of confidence.
Q4: In 35 games thus far this season you have five points including three goals and two assist. Tell us your thoughts on the season to this point.
A4: Since the beginning of the season we had some ups and downs like every other team, but we have a great bunch of guys and we’re going in the right direction. On the individual side, I’m improving myself game after game and I’m focusing on details to become better. Points will come, I am not worried about that.
Q5: What goals do you have for the remainder of the season?
A5: My goals for the remainder of the season are to be able to help the team win every night, improve my game day after day and get drafted by an National Hockey League team at the end of the season.
Q6: How do you prepare on Game Day?
A6: For game day, my preparation starts with a good breakfast. After that, I’m stepping on the ice with the team for a usual morning skate. Following the sakte, I eat lunc, but not a big one because I need to keep space in my stomach for my pre-game meal. Two hours after lunch , it is time for the pre-game meal, followed by an hour and ten minute nap, I then wake up and get dressed cleanly for the game.
Q7: You were born in Ile-des-Soeurs, Que. Tell us about your hometown.
A7: Île-des-soeurs is a little town about ten minutes away from downtown Montreal. It belongs to the Verdun city, which is five minutes away. Two years ago, the Montreal Junior hockey club, who were apart of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League played all their home games in Verdun. It was very pleasant because I could go watch some `Q` games in my hometown area, however the Montreal Junior became the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, which is still the closest team from my hometown.
Q8: Tell us some interesting facts about your family.
A8: My mother`s name is Caroline and my dad`s name is Luc. I also have two sisters who are both outstanding tennis players and alpine skiers. Laurence is 16-years-old and Amelia is 12-years-old. My family has always been supportive when it comes to my hockey career and I can not wait to spend some time with them during the Christmas break.
Q9: Who is one person you would like to thank for getting to where you are today with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Why?
A9: I would like to thank my whole family for getting me where I am today with the Screaming Eagles. They sacrificed a lot of things to allow me to play hockey at a high level and I owe a lot to them. They have always been behind me to support me and encouraging me.
Q10: What is one thing you like about Cape Breton? Why?
A10: I like the people in Cape Breton. They are all very welcoming. I have met some very nice people here. They make you feel like home and this is very important for a player like me who’s coming from Montreal.
