Sea Dogs looking to remain ahead on the standings against the Wildcats

Last weekend, the Saint John Sea Dogs took away first place from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, with a 6-3 win over the Gatineau Olympiques. This victory was Saint John’s eighth win in their last 10 games, with one shootout loss. With a 19-7-2-1 record, good for 41 points, the Sea Dogs are tied with the Armada and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. The fact that they have one more victory than the Huskies and more goals scored than the Armada, makes them no.1 in the standings. Since the beginning of the season, they scored 119 goals (4.1 goals/per game, 4th in QMJHL) and allowed 83 goals (2.8 goals/per game, 5th lowest in QMJHL) to opposing teams. Their power-play stands at 28.6% (2nd in QMHJL) and a 84.3% (1st in QMJHL) efficiency shorthanded. This will be the fifth meeting between these two teams tonight, with the Wildcats winning the last duel by a score of 3-2 in a shootout.

The Wildcats recently defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 4-3 in a surprising shootout victory and blanked the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 4-0 in back-to-back games, the third time this season they won two games in a row. With a win tonight, the Wildcats could tie the Baie Comeau Drakkar at the playoffs door.  Since the beginning of the campaign, Moncton scored a total of 85 goals (2.9 goals/per game, 16th in QMJHL) and allowed 128 goals (4,4 goals/per game, 3rd highest team in QMJHL). On special teams, they’re struggling on the power-play with a 14.% efficiency (18th in QMJHL), but are doing better shorthanded with a 76.1% efficiency (11th in QMJHL).
