Our 20s: Halifax Mooseheads
Peter Reynolds, Lou-Félix Denis and Czech David Moravec saw their QMJHL careers come to an end when the Halifax Mooseheads were swept by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the first round of the playoffs.
Reynolds and Denis had been acquired by the Mooseheads to help them get far in the playoffs, the former from Saint John and the latter from Shawinigan.
Reynolds, a native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, spent his entire junior career in the Maritimes. A second-round pick, 21st overall, of the Sea Dogs in 2019, he joined Saint John in 2020-2021 and his 31 points in 33 games earned him a spot on the QMJHL All-Rookie Team.
A year later, he helped the host Sea Dogs win the Memorial Cup with a 6-3 victory in the final over the Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL).
Then, this season, on December 23, the Sea Dogs shipped him off to Halifax, virtually at the same time as the Moosehads acquired Denis, who spent two and a half years in Shawinigan after being a seventh-round pick of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in 2019.
With the Cataractes, Denis won the President’s Cup – now the Gilles-Courteau Trophy – in 2022. He completes his QMJHL career with 113 points (47-66) in 197 games, compared to 177 (78-99) in 192 games for Reynolds. Almost a point per game!
David Moravec played only two seasons in the QMJHL, after being selected 33rd overall by Halifax in the 2022 Import Draft. Next year, the 6′, 190 lb. defenseman, scorer of 49 points (6-43) in 124 games with the Mooseheads, will play professionally at home in the Czech Republic, with HC Energie Karlovy Vary.
Good luck to all three!
