Islanders make it 5 in a row with win over Mooseheads
Daniel Sprong scored twice while Filip Chlapik and Nicolas Meloche added singles in a 4-3 win for the Charlottetown Islanders on Friday at home against the Halifax Mooseheads.
That makes it 5 in a row for the Islanders. They’ve scored 38 goals in those 5 games.
PO Joseph returned to the Islanders backend on Friday after missing three games with a lower body injury.
“It was a little harder to get going after missing a few but after a few shifts I got back into things.”
Mark Grametbauer was in goal for the Islanders and picked up the win while Alexis Gravel started for the Mooseheads.
Final shots on goal were 39-26.
The Islanders continued their trend of scoring early when Filip Chlapik buried one at 5:06 on the power play. Kameron Kielly and Mark Grametbauer picked up the assists.
The Mooseheads did score two in the first to take the lead after 20 minutes. Cooper Jones and Connor Moynihan had the Moose goals.
In the second period, Daniel Sprong scored the only goal at 7:12 to tie the game. Alex Dostie had the lone assist.
In the third, Sprong gave the Islanders the lead at 12:21 when he banged home a puck in front on the power play. Dostie and Chlapik had the assists.
The Mooseheads tied the game again less than a minute later.
At 14:21, Kameron Kielly found a streaking Nicolas Meloche in front of the net and he banged home his 11th of the season to put the Isles ahead for the final time.
They held on to win 4-3.
With the win, the Islanders pick up their 34th win of the season and are now tied for 2nd with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for most points in the league with 71. The Saint John Sea Dogs have 74 points.
After the game, Joseph talked about what the team needs to do every night to compete down the stretch.
“We have some incredible players. We can bring a lot of offence for sure but we need to play in the system and play intelligent and things will go good for us.”
The Islanders continue the weekend at home on Saturday against the Drummondville Voltigeurs. On Tuesday, the Sea Dogs are in town.
