A Remparts forward wins the Guy-Carbonneau Trophy
Nathan Gaucher of the Quebec Remparts has won the QMJHL Top Defensive Forward award following in the footsteps of his brother Jacob, who won the Guy-Carbonneau Trophy last year.
Despite playing in only 44 games during his fourth QMJHL season, Gaucher managed to score an impressive 22 goals and added 24 assists. He boasted a remarkable +35 plus/minus ratio, making him one of the league’s top performers in that area. In addition, Gaucher scored three game-winning goals and was a key contributor to the Remparts’ penalty-killing unit, scoring once while shorthanded. The Anaheim Ducks prospect was also a key element in the face-off circle, winning 59.4% of his draws. His outstanding play helped Quebec win the 2022-23 Regular Season Championship.
The award is named after Guy Carbonneau, a native of Sept-Iles, who played four seasons in the QMJHL with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and went on to win three Frank-J.-Selke trophies while playing in the NHL. Carbonneau was inducted into the QMJHL Hall of Fame in 2001 after posting impressive numbers (274GP-171G-264A) in major junior. He was also elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019, following a distinguished career spanning 1,318 NHL games.
