Slow Start Costs Screaming Eagles Against Saguenéens

A slow start proved costly for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles as they suffered a 5-2 loss to the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in front of 2,180 fans on hand at Centre 200, Wednesday.
With the loss, the Screaming Eagles have dropped their last five games dating back to November 18th.
Simon Tremblay, Sébastien Sylvestre, Laurent Dauphin, Jérémy Grégoire and Charles Hudon each had a goal for the Saguenéens, who improve to 14-11-2-1 on the season.
Jonathan Oligny and Michael Clarke replied with goals for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 7-16-2-3 on the year.
Chicoutimi got the scoring started early in the game as Simon Tremblay scored his second goal of the season at 1:19 of the first period, Sébastien Sylvestre was given the lone assist.
The Saguenéens took a 2-0 lead on the power play as Sébastien Sylvestre banged home his seventh goal of the season at 6:20 of the opening period, Gabriel Gagnon and Alexandre Roy picked up the helpers on the goal.
Laurent Dauphin gave the visitors a three-goal lead as he was able to slide home his 14th goal of the season at 9:27 of the first frame, Simon Tremblay and Tristan Tremblay were awarded with the assists.
Cape Breton would cut the Chicoutimi lead to two as Jonathan Oligny netted his second goal of the season on the power play at 16:30 of the first period, Kyle Farrell and Alexandre Lavoie found the score sheet with the helpers.
The Saguenéens took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission as Jérémy Grégoire tapped home his seventh goal of the season at 17:49 of the opening frame, Laurent Dauphin was given the only assist on the goal.
The Screaming Eagles would again pull to within two as Michael Clarke found the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season at 1:50 of the second period, Gareth Nicholson and Jakub Culek added the helpers.
Chicoutimi regained the three-goal lead at 6:56 of the third period and never looked back as Montreal Canadiens prospect Charles Hudon scored his 15th goal of the season on a breakaway, the goal was unassisted.
Christopher Gibson made 23 saves in the win for Chicoutimi, his record improves to 6-1-0-0, while David Honzik turned aside six of ten shots, before being replaced by Philippe Trudeau who made 20 saves in his 42:04 of relief. Honzik did suffer the loss in goal, his record falls to 1-4-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles next game is Friday, November 30th when they host the Rimouski Océanic at Centre 200. Game time is 7pm.

Pre-game: The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles had a moment of silence for the late Pat Connolly, who passed away on Tuesday morning after a battle with cancer. Mr. Connolly, who was Sydney native, was 84. The Donkin-Gowrie Choir sang the National Anthem prior to the game on Wednesday night. The Choir also held a performance during the first intermission for the fans.
Shewfelt In Lineup: Mitchell Shewfelt was in the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles lineup on Wednesday night. Shewfelt was recalled by the hockey club following John-Michael Walsh breaking his arm during Saturday’s game in Saint John. Before the call up, Shewfelt was playing in the Maritime Junior Hockey League with the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. The 18-year-old recorded two goals and four assists in 26 games with the Weeks Crushers this season.
Final Shots On Goal: 31-25 in favor of Chicoutimi.
Cape Breton went 1/1 on the power play, while Chicoutimi went 1/2.
Dickies hardest working player of the game went to Kyle Farrell.
