Cats sign German U18 star Julius Sumpf
The Moncton Wildcats haved added another big piece to the roster, signing non-import German-Canadian star Julius Sumpf.
“Julius is a skilled forward with international experience, having competed most recently at the IIHF World U18 tournament, where he was named one of the Top 3 German players,” says Wildcats GM Ritchie Thibeau. “He will bring skill and leadership to our forward group. We’re very happy that Julius decided to continue his development in North America with the Moncton Wildcats.”
Julius was part of the leadership group for Team Germany, wearing an ‘A’ for his country. The 18 year-old, 6’1″, 176 lb attacker came up through the EC Red Bull Salzburg system, playing 2 seasons on their U18 team before making the jump to the Juniors last year and putting up 18 points (9G, 9A) in 23 games in the Alps Hockey League.
Sumpf is currently on his way to join Wildcats winger Yoan Loshing at the Colorade Avalanche Development Camp, and had this to say, “I’m really excited to be part of such a great organization. I have only heard great things about the team and the city. I’m looking forward to meetong everyone in August.”
The Wildcats will add 2 more players on Wednesday, July 5 when the CHL Import Draft takes place. Moncton will select at #35 and #95.
