Titan announce 2022-23 captains
BATHURST, N.B. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan have named their captains for the 2022-23 season. Head Coach and General Manager Gordie Dwyer made the announcement during a team meeting this morning at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
Cole Larkin is the 36th captain in team history. The 20-year-old defenceman is entering his fifth season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. A second-round pick of the Halifax Mooseheads in 2018, the Prince Edward Island product has totaled 49 points in 204 career games since being traded to the Titan during the 2018-19. Larkin inherits the captaincy after serving as an assistant captain for the past two years.
“It is an honour to be named captain of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan,” said Larkin. “I will lead our group by example through preparation, compete, and work ethic. My goal is to support my teammates and organization while being a positive role model in the community.”
Joining Larkin in the leadership group are Ben Allison, Riley Kidney, and Jacob Melanson who will serve as assistant captains this season.
Allison, 20, has spent the past three seasons with Acadie-Bathurst after coming over from the Gatineau Olympiques in 2020. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was selected in the second round of the 2018 QMJHL Draft by the Cape Breton Eagles. In 129 career games Allison has 32 goals and 50 assists for 82 points along with 11 points in 18 career post-season contests.
Kidney was the Titan’s 12th overall selection in the 2019 draft and a second-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2021. The 19-year-old center enters his fourth QMJHL season with 50 goals and 125 assists for 175 points in 161 games. Kidney also has 25 points in 17 career playoff games.
Melanson, who was also taken in the first round of the 2019 draft, is in his third season with the Titan and fourth in the league. The product of Amherst, Nova Scotia is a prospect of the Seattle Kraken after the NHL expansion franchise selected him in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Melanson has 47 goals and 40 assists for 87 points in 113 career games as well as nine points in 13 playoff appearances.
“Cole, Ben, Riley and Jacob all have leadership qualities, experience, competitiveness and the respect of their teammates,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Gordie Dwyer. “These qualities will set the standard for our organization this season and beyond.”
