Titan blow lead, fall to Islanders 5-3
BATHURST, N.B. – The Charlottetown Islanders bounced back from a three-goal deficit to beat the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at home Saturday afternoon. Charlottetown pulled away with a 5-3 win over the home squad at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
Miguel Tourigny and Hendrix Lapierre scored for the Titan, while Charlottetown goal scorers were Brett Budgell, Lukas Cormier, Xavier Simoneau, Drew Elliot and Patrick Guay.
Tourigny broke into the scoring column at 5:09 in the first period to take the lead, with Lapierre registering two goals at 10:56 and 15:22 to make it a three-goal lead over the Islanders. With only two seconds left before the buzzer Budgell scored Charlottetown’s first goal of the night on the powerplay. Cormier scored on the powerplay for the Islanders in the second period at 19:16 to make it 3-2.
Simoneau tied the game in the final frame at the eight minute mark, before Elliot scored the game-winner at 15:00 to give the Islanders their first lead of the game 4-3. Guay sealed the win with an empty net goal with one minute remaining to make it a 5-3 final score.
Lapierre earned first star honours with two goals while Tourigny was named the third star with one goal and one assist. The Titan are back in action against the Halifax Mooseheads tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
