GAME RECAP: Titan score five in the second, beat Halifax for 12 consecutive games
In their first game since the holiday break, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan offense exploded in a 6-2 victory over the Halifax Mooseheads, their 12th straight victory over Halifax.
Halifax would strike first as Quinn Kennedy potted his 11th of the season past Josh Fleming to make it 1-0 for the home side. Kennedy was acquired from the Rimouski Océanic during the Christmas trade period. It was his first goal with the Mooseheads. Halifax would take that 1-0 advantage to the intermission.
Noah Laberge would get the Titan crowd on their feet with his fifth of the season to tie the game. Just 26 seconds later, Justin Breton would put the Mooseheads ahead again. After that, it was all Titan. Mathieu St-Onge scored shorthanded to tie the game with his fifth of the year. Alexandre Lallier’s second of the season gave the Titan their first lead of the game. The Titan’s special teams showed up in this game, as the powerplay and penalty kill combined for four goals. Dawson Sharkey and Lallier scored powerplay goals to put the Titan up three. After two periods, the Titan had a 5-2 lead.
Tension was high in the third period. Almost every whistle led to fisticuffs between the Maritime Division rivals. Liam Arsenault’s breakaway late in the third was stopped by Mathis Rousseau, but Louis-François Bélanger put home the rebound for the Titan’s second shorthanded goal of the game. That’s all the Titan would need as Bathurst took the game 6-2 in front of a roaring K.C. Irving Centre crowd.
St-Onge, Lallier, and Bélanger were named the third, second, and first star, respectively.
