Titan pick up 4-2 win over Oceanic
BATHURST, N.B. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan downed the Rimouski Oceanic in front of a roaring home crowd Thursday night in major junior action. Acadie-Bathurst pulled away with a 4-2 win over the visitors at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
“[We] just got contributions from everybody. I thought that everybody managed the puck very well for probably 50 minutes of the game and it was a good solid effort right through the whole lineup,” said Jason Clarke, head coach of the Titan.
Titan goal scorers in the game were Bennett MacArthur, Cameron MacLean, Joseph Henneberry and Riley Kidney while Rimouski got goals from Luka Verreault and Ludovic Soucy.
MacArthur got the Titan on the board 20 seconds after puck drop to kick-off the game with his 40th of the season. MacLean, following MacArthur’s lead, netted his goal early in the second frame at 4:37 to take a 2-0 lead over the Oceanic.
Verreault started to close the scoring gap at 15:02 in the second frame, but Henneberry snapped the puck past Rimouski’s Patrik Hamrla at 17:53 to restore a two-goal lead, 3-1.
Rimouski once again got within a goal as Soucy scored at 3:43 in the third period, before Kidney netted an insurance goal for Acadie-Bathurst at 15:28 to pull away with the 4-2 win.
Henneberry claimed first star honours with three points while Ben Allison was named second star with two assists. Acadie-Bathurst outshot Rimouski 38-22 but didn’t score on two powerplay chances. Rimouski went 1-for-4 on the man advantage.
