RECAP: Sea Dogs stumble in Bathurst as Titan take victory
BATHURST, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs fell short in a high-scoring 5-4 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Saturday, bringing their season record to 5-8-1-2.
Donovan Arsenault found the back of the net for the Titan at 5:54 of the first period. Sea Dogs defenceman Nate Tivey took a tripping penalty at 6:58, paving the way for Arsenault’s second goal, on the powerplay at 8:28. Pavel Simek opened the Sea Dogs scoring on the powerplay at 12:44, assisted by Vince Elie and Nicolas Bilodeau. Arsenault at 19:15 made it 3-1 with his third of the night. The period ended with the Titan up 3-1, outshooting the Sea Dogs 17-11.
Noah Reinhart netted his seventh of the season 8:24 into the second with Bilodeau and Egan Beveridge assisting. Tempers flared at 18:43, resulting in penalties for Sea Dogs defenceman Matteo Mann for cross-checking and Titan forward Dominik Godin for roughing. The period concluded 3-2 for the Titan.
Jacob Beaulieu scored his first of the year and tied the score at three apiece for the Sea Dogs early in the third period, with assists from Mann and Sam-Luca Thifault. Simek’s second of the night came shortly after at 7:58, assisted by Eriks Mateiko, which briefly gave the Sea Dogs a 4-3 lead. A major penalty and game misconduct for kneeing were assessed to Thifault at 9:38. Alexandre Lallier capitalized on the extended powerplay at 11:57, evening the score for Acadie-Bathurst. Henneberry then scored the game-winning goal, while still on the powerplay, at 13:57. The matchup concluded with the Titan taking the game 5-4, dominating the shot count 38-28 in the process.
The Sea Dogs look to quickly bounce back tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. when the Sherbrooke Phoenix make their first and only visit to TD Station this season. it is also another Caesar Sunday, which means Caesars are only $5 at the Ice Bar.
