RECAP: Morin’s overtime magic seals victory for Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs secured their only lead of the game when it mattered most, as rookie points leader Zach Morin scored in overtime to edge the Gatineau Olympiques 3-2 on Friday night at TD Station. The win brings their record to an even 13-13-0-0.
Matteo Mann and William Yared also found the back of the net for Saint John, while Julien Paillé scored both goals for Gatineau.
GAME SUMMARY
The Olympiques opened the scoring at 16:26 of the first period when Jacob Kaine fed Julien Paillé, who beat Charles-Édward Gravel glove side.
After relentless pressure from the Sea Dogs, Matteo Mann capitalized on the powerplay, picking up Zach Morin’s rebound and burying it to tie the game 1-1 with less than two minutes remaining in the second. However, just 58 seconds later Paillé struck again, scoring his second of the game to give Gatineau a 2-1 lead.
At 5:16 of the third period, Sea Dogs forward William Yared took advantage of a misplay by a Gatineau player, getting off a quick one-time shot that beat Nathan St-Pierre to tie the game at 2-2. Still deadlocked at two after 60 minutes of play, the two teams headed off to overtime.
With a minute remaining in overtime, and on the powerplay, a chaotic scramble in front of the Olympiques net sent the puck bouncing free to Morin, who buried it to secure a 3-2 victory for the Sea Dogs.
