RECAP: Mann works overtime magic again as Sea Dogs beat Wildcats
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs showed resilience on a spooky Halloween night at TD Station, claiming a 3-2 overtime victory against the top-ranked Moncton Wildcats.
Rookie forward William Yared contributed the two regulation goals for the Sea Dogs, while Matteo Mann secured the win in overtime for his second game-winner in as many games. Charles-Édward Gravel was stellar in net, stopping 33 of 35 shots.
Goals for Moncton were scored by Caleb Desnoyers and Juraj Pekarcik.
GAME SUMMARY
The Sea Dogs opened the scoring at 14:51 in the first period when Dylan Rozzi slipped the puck to William Yared who executed a quick deke around Jacob Steinman and lifted it top shelf. Just minutes later, at 16:23, Yoan Loshing passed to Caleb Desnoyers, who fired it past Gravel’s extended blocker, tying the game at one.
Early in the second, Alex Mercier fed Juraj Pekarcik, whose shot slipped just past Gravel, giving Moncton a 2-1 lead. However, the Sea Dogs rallied early in the third, with Zachary Morin setting up Yared, who went bar-down to tie the game at 2-2.
The game remained deadlocked through regulation, heading into overtime. At the 1:51 mark, Nicolas Bilodeau battled for a loose puck in front of the Wildcats goal, pushing it to Matteo Mann. Mann delivered with a swift deke, lifting the puck over Steinman’s glove and sealing the victory for the Sea Dogs.
