RECAP: Fournier, Miller score in road loss to Eagles

SYDNEY, N.S. – The Saint John Sea Dogs kicked off their eight-game road trip with a visit to Centre 200 to battle the Cape Breton Eagles. Despite their best efforts, the Sea Dogs ultimately fell 5-2.

Cape Breton got on the board first when Cam Squires notched a short-handed goal at 10:40 in the first period to open the scoring. Olivier Houde then scored a power-play goal at 14:53 to make it 2-0. In response, Brody Fournier, who has eight points in 11 games with the Sea Dogs, buried one on a beautiful assist by Coen Miller. The first period concluded with the Sea Dogs behind 2-1, as shots favored the Eagles 20-8.

In the second period, the Eagles expanded their lead with a goal from Jacob Newcombe at 4:40. With the Sea Dogs trailing 3-1, both teams continued to battle, ending the period with the Eagles leading in shots 32-12.

The third period saw the Eagles extend their lead with a goal from Cam MacDonald at 7:32. Miller showed fantastic patience on a penalty shot to get the Sea Dogs back within two. With just 11 seconds remaining, Houde sealed the win with a goal to finalize the score, 5-2 for the Eagles.

This loss shifts the Sea Dogs record to 15-23-3-3 as they continue in their road trip, with their next challenge set for January 26th against the Shawinigan Cataractes at 8pm. Saint John looks to continue to build on their road performances ahead of their much-anticipated return to TD Station on February 15th where the “One for All Festival” kicks off with their annual Pride Night against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
