RECAP: Reynolds lifts Sea Dogs to win over Halifax with three-point night
HALIFAX, N.S. – The Saint John Sea Dogs capped off their three-game stretch against the Halifax Mooseheads with a 3-2 overtime victory. This win, the second in the mini-series, sends the Sea Dogs into the holiday break on Santa’s nice list.
The Sea Dogs took the lead at 11:21 in the first period with captain Peter Reynolds scoring a precisely placed wrist shot, set up by Noah Reinhart and Tristan Dassylva. Later, at 16:48, Reynolds’ shot during a powerplay led to Reinhart scoring the second goal, with Joseph Ianniello also getting an assist. The period ended 2-0 in favor of the Sea Dogs, despite being slightly outshot 10-9.
The Mooseheads began their comeback with Reece Peitzsche scoring unassisted 4:16 into the second period. Momentum carried over with Brody Fournier’s powerplay goal at 7:38, tying the game at two apiece. The period concluded with the Mooseheads leading in shots, 21-18.
At 10:07 into the third, after a hooking penalty on the Mooseheads’ Antoine Fontaine, a scuffle involving Yannik Ponzetto and Reid Calder led to penalties for both teams. Secure defense from both sides prevented any further scoring, taking the game to overtime tied at two, with shots 27-26 for the Mooseheads.
In a dramatic finish at 3:54, Reynolds clinched the game while on the powerplay with his 20th goal of the season on a cross-ice feed from Ianniello. The game concluded with a 3-2 victory for the Sea Dogs, and Reynolds earned first star of the game with two goals and an assist.
The Sea Dogs now enter a 12-day holiday break before facing the Cape Breton Eagles on the road December 28th at 7pm. The next home game for Saint John is on New Year’s Eve at 2pm against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Canadian country singer Robyn Ottolini, fresh off a tour with Shania Twain, will be performing during both intermissions.
