A renowned list of players have donned the ‘C’ while wearing the jersey of the Charlottetown Islanders. These players were recognized as the face of the Charlottetown Islanders franchise and led their teams both on and off the ice.

2022-2023 – Keiran Gallant
Keiran Gallant joined the Charlottetown Islanders after being selected in the 13th round of the 2018 QMJHL Draft. Keiran’s hard work and dedication earned him a roster spot with the Islanders in the 2019-2020 season. Injury setbacks didn’t deter Keiran as he continued to set himself apart with tremendous work ethic both on and off the ice. This season, Keiran became the second ever PEI-born player to be named captain of the Charlottetown Islanders.

2020-2022 – Brett Budgell
Brett Budgell was drafted by the Islanders in the 2nd round of the 2017 QMJHL Draft and made his debut on January 4th, 2018. He took the team by storm, scoring 22 points in 32 regular season games as a 16-year-old, followed by 21 points in 18 playoff games in the team’s unforgettable playoff run that season. Budgell’s poise, charisma, and talent made it an easy decision when his teammates named him Charlottetown’s ninth team captain in 2020.

2019-2020 – Brendon Clavelle
Brendon Clavelle joined the Islanders ahead of the 2017-2018 season as free agent from Ontario. He quickly became known for his steady defensive presence, being relied on by his coaches in all situations. As a fully bilingual player, Clavelle was known off the ice for his great work in both the English and French communities on PEI. He was unanimously voted as the team captain by his teammates at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season.

2017-2019- P.O. Joseph
P.O. Joseph made his debut with the Islanders as a 16-year-old during the 2015-16 after being selected by the Isles in the 5th round of the QMJHL draft. In three seasons since joining the team Joseph has proven to be a steal of the draft, improving each season on both sides of the puck. The Chambly, QC native showed leadership from the outset and in the 2016-17 season the 6’2 defencemen wore an “A” sweater and played his way onto the radar of professional scouts across the NHL. During the 2017 Draft, Joseph became the highest drafted player in Charlottetown Islanders/PEI Rocket history, being selected 23rd overall by the Arizona Coyotes.

2016-2017 – Guillaume Brisebois
Guillaume Brisebois was acquired by the Charlottetown Islanders from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at the 2016 Draft held in Charlottetown. From his experience as Captain of the Titan, Guillaume became an instant leader on the team and set an example on and off the ice with his professional demeanor and high skill level. In the 2016/17 regular season, Brisebois had 10 goals and 37 assists. In the playoffs, as he led the Isles to the third round for the first time ever, he added four assists while logging big time minutes on the point. Guillaume was drafted in the 3rd round, 66th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 2016.
2016-2017 – Callum Thomson
During the 2015-16 season while playing in Halifax the Charlottetown Islanders met a truly inspirational family and in particular an amazing young man in Callum Thomson. That day Callum made an immediate and lasting impact in the lives of each and player as they witnessed his bravery and resilience in his fight with leukemia. Throughout the remainder if the season Callum continued his courageous battle knowing that every member of the Charlottetown Islanders organization was fighting with him. In August 2016 the Islanders received the wonderful news that Callum had fought and won his battle. Hearing the news Head Coach and General Manager Jim Houlton knew that there was no better person to lead his team into the 2016-17 season then Callum Thomson.
2015-2016 – Oliver Cooper
With Quinn O’Brien’s season over, the Islanders turned to another leader to take the ‘C’ midway through the season. Oliver Cooper was drafted into the QMJHL in 2011 by the Saint John Sea Dogs, and is in his second season with Charlottetown after being acquired from the Sea Dogs at the 2014 Draft for a pair of first-round picks. He served as an alternate captain in the 2014-15 season, recording 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 64 games, and registered another 2 goals and 4 assists as the Islanders had one of their best playoff runs in franchise history. Oliver easily earned an overage spot on the team for his final season of junior hockey in 2015-16 and was a leader on and off the ice all season, even before being named captain.
2015-2016 – Quinn O’Brien
Quinn O’Brien was named the Islanders’ captain at the beginning of the 2015-16 season. Originally drafted into the QMJHL by Rouyn-Noranda in 2011, he was acquired from the Huskies by the Islanders as the trade window opened in December 2014, having previously tried to acquire him the season before. In 27 games with the Islanders in his first partial season, the overage forward recorded 1 goal and 6 assists and when the Islanders made the 2015 playoffs he was the most experienced player on the roster, adding another 2 assists in 8 games. Quinn’s captaincy season was plagued by injuries, recording 4 goals in 31 games before having season-ending surgery in January 2016.
2014-2015 – Ryan Mackinnon
Ryan MacKinnon served as the Islanders’ captain in his lone season with the team in 2014-15. The Summerside native returned home for his final season of junior hockey after being acquired from the Rimouski Oceanic in the offseason and had the best offensive season of his career. In 64 regular season games with the Islanders, Ryan recorded 10 goals and 40 assists for 50 points – more than double his previous season-best – and posted an additional 5 assists in the 2015 playoffs. Off the ice, he was also a leader in the Island community, being involved in a number of programs across the province.
2013-2014 – Jack Nevins
Jack Nevins became the first captain in Charlottetown Islanders history when he was named captain for the 2013-14 season. Signed by the P.E.I. Rocket for the 2012-13 season, Jack had 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 assists in 92 games with the Rocket/Islanders organization before being traded to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at the 2014 trade deadline. He was signed to an entry-level contract by the Montreal Canadiens at the beginning of the 2013-14 season and went on to spend the 2014-15 season in the American Hockey League.
