Islanders acquire Leblond from Baie-Comeau
The Charlottetown Islanders have acquired forward Nicolas Leblond from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, General Manager Grant Sonier announced today.
In exchange for the right-winger, the Drakkar receive a fourth-round pick in the 2017 QMJHL Draft.
Leblond, a native of St-Basile-le-Grand, QC, has spent the past three seasons in Baie-Comeau. In 126 career games, he has picked up 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points.
“He is just a high, high energy forward that we think we need to add to our lineup,” said Sonier. “He’s gonna bring tenacity, he’s gonna bring second effort.”
Leblond also has playoff experience, playing in 13 postseason games with Baie-Comeau.
“Like (recently acquired Guillaume) Beaudry, he played on that team that went all the way to the finals, so he’s got good playoff experience,” said Sonier. “We think he’ll add to our team’s speed and add to our team’s intensity.
“He’ll push the bar for the rest of our team.”
The Islanders are back in action for their first game of 2016 tomorrow afternoon as the Halifax Mooseheads come to town. Tickets are available at the Eastlink Centre Box Office, by phone at (902) 629-6625 or online at www.eastlinkcentrepei.ca.
