Internship | Communications
We are looking for a Communications intern for the 2023-24 season. This internship will provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the industry. The intern will have the opportunity to observe and work directly with our Marketing and Communications team. They will get to assist with planning and executing several different marketing and communications tasks. They will also assist with all game-day communications. The intern will play a key part in helping cover all Islanders games during the 2023-2024 season.
Availability
All games during the 2023-2024 season (September – April)
3 hours prior to the game until approximately 1 hour after game
Two days a week in the office (9:00 – 5:00), in addition to game days
Responsibilities
The Communications intern’s primary responsibilities would include:
- Assist marketing team with executing promotional campaigns
- Attend pre-game meetings with staff
- Assist with game day social media content, including live coverage of all games
- Coordinate and execute post-game interviews
- Write pre- and post-game media releases and game notes
- Contribute to feature stories for various in-house publications
- Assist with maintaining all social media platforms
- Work with marketing to team plan and execute content creation
- Other projects or duties as assigned by the marketing team
Requirements
The ideal candidate would meet all of the following requirements:
- A major or minor concentration in marketing, communications/media relations, or sport management
- Available for all Islanders games, including away games and playoffs
- Proficient with all major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and in a team setting
- Have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment while working under tight deadlines
- Must behave professionally at all times
