Statement regarding the QMJHL’s scheduling announcement
As information surrounding the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Charlottetown Islanders organization would like to ensure that our fans and corporate partners continue to be informed on where we stand for this upcoming season.
Today, the QMJHL announced its targeted start date for a full 68-game regular season is October 1st, 2020. While this is a positive announcement for all of us that are looking forward to getting back to the Eastlink Centre, we fully understand that the necessity for compliance with our Provincial government and the Chief Public Health office, along with the continued importance of physical distancing. We are currently working closely with the QMJHL on a Return to Play protocol for the 2020-21 season in order to ensure a safe return for our players, staff and fans, that will be in compliance with public health guidelines.
We understand that you will have a number of questions and concerns regarding today’s announcement as a valued Islanders supporter. We will continue to update you as information evolves and when we have direct procedures in place on how to proceed moving forward.
