Mackenzie named Islanders assistant coach
Charlottetown – Charlottetown Islanders General Manager Jim Hulton announced the newest additions to the hockey operations staff on Friday afternoon. Brad Mackenzie has been hired as an Assistant Coach and will join Hulton and Guy Girouard behind the bench.
“I’m extremely happy to have Brad join our team,” said Hulton. “His passion, work ethic and knowledge of the game will make him a welcome addition to our coaching staff.”
Mackenzie spent the past season as an Assistant Coach with the UPEI Panthers in the CIS. In addition, he is the current Executive Director for Andrews Hockey Growth Programs.
The Charlottetown native attended the Vierumaki Sports Institute in Finland where he studied to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport & Leisure Management with specialization in Ice Hockey coaching. While in Finland he was also the Assistant Coach of the Vierumaki A-Junior team and did work with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association and the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Hulton also announced that Trevor Birt has been hired as the Director of Player Personal and the Maritime Head Scout. Birt, a P.E.I. native, has been a part of the organization since 2011 as the team’s P.E.I scout.
Paul Drew will return for his 4th season as Goalie Coach and Zac Hannam will join the team as Video Coach.
