Islanders launch Breakaway for Books program
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Charlottetown Islanders are excited to announce that the Breakaway for Books campaign has been revamped to provide teachers with resources for students while encouraging literary success in the classroom.
Breakaway for Books is designed to encourage students in grades 1-6 to read in and out of the classroom. The program will run from November through April and provides incentives both inside the classroom and at home to read.
Classes that sign up will be provided with a custom Breakaway for Books bookmark for each student. Each evening that a student completes a reading achievement, parents will sign the back of the bookmark. After earning ten signatures, the bookmark will be returned to their teacher to receive a certificate of achievement signed by Islanders head coach Jim Hulton and a complimentary ticket to an upcoming Charlottetown Islanders game to celebrate their success. Students can submit bookmarks as often as they want for a complimentary ticket.
Each month, a student will be recognized as a Top Individual Reader of the Month. That student will receive five tickets to an upcoming Islanders home game along with complimentary food and beverages!
Also, when your class signs up for Breakaway for Books, we will send a member of the Charlottetown Islanders to your classroom to read to your class and deliver your bookmarks in person!
We look forward to visiting your classroom and helping students reach their literary goals!
