Charlottetown Islanders partner with first newcomer business, Roland Tours
The Charlottetown Islanders are happy to announce a brand-new partnership initiative.
Roland Tours is a newly established company in Charlottetown that offers several services to newcomers to the Island. They help them transition into living on P.E.I. in several ways, and offer tours of the four Maritime provinces.
Roland Liu is the owner and operator of Roland Tours. He moved to P.E.I. in February 2014. Since then he has regularly attended games at the Eastlink Centre and is looking forward to being a partner.
“Charlottetown is my new hometown in my new country, I want to support this city’s team.”
“Hockey isn’t popular in China but it is the #1 sport in Canada. I want to support this team and promote it to the Chinese newcomers to go to a Charlottetown Islanders game. In partnering with the organization, I can do that.”
Roland lives in Charlottetown with his wife and two daughters. His youngest daughter is just three months old and was born on the Island.
“We all enjoy the games very much. It is very good entertainment. I think more people from China are going now than three years ago and are finding it very interesting.”
Roland has adapted to the rules of hockey but says other newcomers have found some of the rules to be very confusing.
“Off-sides, penalties, fighting. So many questions. Maybe Kameron Kielly can teach a class and teach the rules.”
This is the first newcomer’s business the Charlottetown Islanders have partnered with. Director of Sales and Marketing Jason MacLean hopes it leads to more possibilities.
On November 3, the Islanders partnered with Holland College and Study Abroad to bring 400 newcomers to a game at the Eastlink Centre.
“This is a growing population on P.E.I. and we were happy to meet with Roland and get to know him through the process. We look forward to partnering with Roland and growing our relationship in the newcomer’s market.”
