D’Aoust spoils Armada comeback in overtime
SHAWINIGAN, QUE. – Friday night it was a battle of two teams at opposite ends of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League standings as the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada skated into the Centre Gervais Auto to battle the Shawinigan Cataractes. Both teams, each coming off wins in their last game, were looking to get on a mini two-game win streak as they met for the second time this season.
Midway through the first period Gabriel Slight opened the scoring with his 10th of the season putting him at the double-digit goal plateau for the third season in a row. The powerplay marker was assisted by Samuel Girard and Dennis Yan.
Alexandre Delisle-Houde answered for the Armada with under two minutes left in the frame. His seventh of the season got past Antoine Samuel to tie the game 1-1. Connor Bramwell had the lone helper.
48 seconds later Alexis D’Aoust got the Cataractes back in front beating Samuel Montembeault for the 13th goal of his 2015-16 campaign. Yan and Girard once again got the assists.
Mathieu Olivier scored the only goal in the second period with a shorthanded marker at 11:55 to extend the home side lead to 3-1. The goal was unassisted.
In the third period, Kristian Pospisil and Samuel Tremblay each scored to help the Armada comeback from the two-goal deficit. Pospisil’s goal came at 2:19 on the man advantage with assists going to Pascal Corbeil and TJ Melancon. Tremblay scored his fourth of the season at 7:36 with helpers given to Pospisil and Bramwell.
The game went into a 3-on-3 overtime period where D’Aoust would break the hearts of the visitors from Blainville-Boisbriand. The 19-year-old scored his 14th of the season, and second of the night, only 14 seconds into the extra frame to give the Cataractes a 4-3 victory on home ice.
Samuel stopped 23 shots for the winning side, while the losing netminder Montembeault made 19 saves.
