Garland too hot for Cats to handle
SHAWINIAN, QUE. – Saturday night the Shawinigan Cataractes concluded their weekend schedule with a matchup against Conor Garland and the visiting Moncton Wildcats. Garland, who lead the league with 54 points heading into the contest, made an impact once again as the Wildcats topped the Cataractes 5-2.
The Wildcats got on top 2-0 in the opening period with goals from Eric Leger and Will Bower. The goals came at 10:14 and 17:09 respectively. Garland had a pair of assists, while Zack McEwen got one helper.
Alexis D’Aoust responded for the home side at 13:57 with his 15th of the season on a man advantage. Anthony Beauvillier got the lone assist as the Cats got back within a goal.
However, Austin Kosack scored five minutes later to restore a two-goal lead for Moncton. Assists went to Garland and Kevin Klima.
Trying to claw back into the game, the Cataractes cut the lead once again to only a goal at 13:49. Dennis Yan potted his 20th with Brandon Gignac and Mathieu Olivier getting assists on the marker.
Manuel Weiderer scored an empty netter and Garland added a powerplay goal in the final two minutes of the game to break the hearts of the 2,965 Cataractes fans in attendance and give the Wildcats a 5-2 win on the road.
