The Cataractes will be able to count on an experienced coaching staff
Shawinigan Cataractes general manager Martin Mondou announces the appointment of Daniel Renaud as head coach and Jason Clarke as assistant coach. Pascal Dupuis and Julien Tremblay will also join the staff.
Daniel Renaud will make a comeback with the Cataractes, a team for which he was head coach from 2017 to 2020. He spent the last season with the Val d’Or Foreurs recording a record of 29 wins in 36 games.
“I feel extremely privileged to come back with the organization that gave me my first chance as a head coach. I will resume work in Shawinigan with a group of owners and players for whom I have a great deal of respect and in whom I believe a lot. ” says Daniel Renaud, back with the team. “Following the last season without spectators, I can’t wait to find the best crowd in the QMJHL. These golden supporters will thrill Gervais Auto Center once again. ” he rejoices.
“We are very happy with the return of Daniel, a coach who fits exactly in the teaching values that we want to offer to our young players. We have jointly set up a complementary team with specific objectives, including continuing to be an organization recognized for the quality of its development and winning our first President’s Cup. »Says the general manager of the Shawinigan Cataractes, Martin Mondou.
An experienced assistant joins the team
Jason Clarke will take his first steps in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Clarke served as owner, general manager and head coach of the Carletons Place Canadiens in the CCHL for 11 seasons. His team has won the CCHL Season Championship 8 consecutive years (2012-2020) and the playoffs 4 times (2013-2017). Clarke was also the recipient of the 2019-2020 CCHL Coach and General Manager of the Year in addition to being the Head Coach of Team Canada JR.A (East) in 2015-2016 and 2016- 2017.
“Jason represents exactly the assistant profile we were looking for. His experience as a coach and general manager, his numerous championships, his passion for the game will undoubtedly be profitable for our players and our organization, “says Martin Mondou.
Dupuis, Tremblay and Roy in support
Pascal Dupuis, meanwhile, will be joining the coaching staff for a number of games and practices in the coming season. Dupuis’s presence in Shawinigan had been very complex because of the Covid-19 and the bubbles last season. The former Pittsburgh Penguins No. 9 will have the chance this year to share his experience and knowledge with the team he has now owned since last season.
The team also adds Julien Tremblay as a skills coach. The former QMJHL will also take over some video duties, replacing Elliott Mondou who graduated with Team Canada in early July.
Phillippe Roy will return to the team for a second season as an assistant coach.
