Cataractes acquire Fitzgerald from Mooseheads
The Shawinigan Cataractes were active on day one of this year’s dealing their 2015 first round pick, Jocktan Chainey, to the Mooseheads for Cavan Fitzgerald. Halifax also recieves a 2016 3rd round pick in the deal.
Chainey, 16, played 14 games with the Cataractes this season where he picked up a goal and six assists. The Asbestos, Que. native participated in the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with Team Canada Black scoring one goal in four contests.
Fitzgerald has played in 75 regular season games with the Mooseheads since making the team as a free agent invite in 2013. The 19-year-old blueliner has 15 goals and 43 assists for 58 points thus far in his Quebec Major Junior Hockey League career.
The Boston, Massachusetts native recieved an invite from the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks in 2015 and participated in the team’s 2015 training camp before signing a three-year entry level contract with the Sharks organization.
