Phelan dealt to Victoriaville for Gagne
On day two of the holiday trading period, GM Martin Mondou was putting in work once again as he acquired Gabriel Gagne from the Victoriaville Tigres. In return, the Tigres received James Phelan and a 2016 third round pick, originally from Baie-Comeau.
Phelan, a second round pick of the Cataractes in 2013, has amassed 17 goals and 26 assists in 155 games over the course of his two and a half seasons in Shawinigan. The Laval, Que. Native was a member of Team Canada Quebec at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where he played six games but was held pointless.
Gagne, 19, was in his fourth season with the Tigres since being selected 26th overall, in the second round of the 2012 QMJHL Draft by the Moncton Wildcats. In 143 career games, the Ste-Adele, Que. native has 56 goals and 48 assists for 104 points. The six-foot-five, 187-pound winger was drafted 36th overall by the Ottawa Senators at the 2015 National Hockey League draft.
