Spectacular win to start 2018!
Shawinigan started the year with a lot of grit and passion and they overcame Rouyn-Noranda by a final score of 6-1. During the whole game, the Cataractes have put a lot of pressure on their opponent and minimize scoring chances against them.
In the first period, Daniel Renaud saw his team beat Zachary Émond three times! First, Jan Drozg opened the score with his 9th of the year helped by Alex DeGagné and Gabriel Denis. Then, less than two minutes later, Vasily Glotov finished the play initiated by Jason Horvath to make it 2-0. Before the end of the first period, Alex Plamondon jumped on a loose puck in the crease to take Émond by surprise and score his second of the season.
Also, during that first 20 minutes of action, Mathieu Bellemare continued to shine between the pipes with important saves for the men in yellow!
In the second, the first minutes of the period clearly belonged to Rouyn-Noranda who charged Mathieu Bellemare’s net. Fortunately, the veteran netminder stayed calm and blocked every shot during that stretch. His inspired teammates scored twice in the second when Antoine Demers and Vasily Glotov (his second of the game) gave Daniel Renaud a 5-0 lead. Just before the end of the second, Rouyn-Noranda managed to beat Mathieu Bellemare when Vincent Marleau scored with 8 seconds left in the period.
In the third, Gabriel Denis added one more to complete his best career game in the Q with 3 points.
Mathieu Bellemare lead his team to victory with a strong 31 saves performance.
