Rough night in Québec!

The Cataractes had to face former goalie Antoine Samuel and the Québec Remparts at Videotron Center. Philippe Boucher’s team came out strong with 3 goals in the first period to pave the way to a 6-1 win over Shawinigan. Jérémy Manseau was the only one to beat Antoine Samuel. Despite the loss, Mathieu Bellemare made 47 saves.

In the first period of play, Jesse Sutton (penalty shot), Andrew Coxhead (penalty kill) and Matthew Boucher who tipped a shot from the point scored to put the Remparts ahead near the half of the period. All goals came within 3 minutes! For Shawinigan, Mathieu Bellemare came in the game after Québec’s third and stopped all 13 shots he faced.

After 20 minutes, Québec was ahead 21-3 in the shots column.

In the second, the Cataractes shot 7 times on Antoine Samuel but no scoring chances emerged from those shots. On the other side of the rink, Québec saw 2 goals being waved off : the first one because of an offside at the Shawinigan blue line and the other one because the puck was touched too high.

Finally, Pascal Laberge managed to beat Bellemare between the pads near the end of the second period to make it 4-0.

After 40 minutes of play, Québec had 32 shots on net versus 10 for the Cataractes.

The third period was 30 seconds late that Pascal Laberge was earning his second goal of the game when he beat Mathieu Bellemare.

Then, 4 minutes later, Shawinigan fans had a good reason to cheer when Jérémy Manseau completed the play initiated by Vasily Glotov and Jan Drozg on a 2-man advantage.

Then, Mathieu Bellemare was outstanding but couldn’t stop Benjamin Gagné late in the third.

At the end of the game, Québec had the upper hand on the shot column with a total a 58 versus 12.
