Jonathan Drouin named QMJHL Captain for SUBWAY® Super Series
Boucherville , QC – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the players who will lead Team QMJHL as Captain and Alternate Captains for the SUBWAY ® Super Series in Gatineau on Monday, November 18 and Sherbrooke on Wednesday, November 20.
The third overall pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning and reigning CHL Player of the Year, Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads, will be Captain of Team QMJHL for the two games against the Russian National Junior Team, while Charles Hudon, Montreal Canadiens prospect of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, Dillon Fournier, Chicago Blackhawks prospect of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, and Felix Girard, Nashville Predators prospect of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar will be Alternate Captains for both Team QMJHL games.
At 18-years-old, Drouin, of Ste-Agathe, Quebec, will be participating for a second time in the SUBWAY® Super Series. He played last year in Val-d’Or where he had the opportunity to showcase his talent with one goal and three assists while playing next to teammate Nathan MacKinnon in the 5-2 victory. This performance helped him earn a spot on Canada’s National Junior Team for the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia. So far this year, Drouin has nine goals and 20 assists in only 14 games.
This will be the third Team QMJHL participation for Hudon, and the second for Fournier. Hudon, from Alma, Quebec, was selected in the fifth round by the Canadiens in 2012 and has 24 points in 22 games this season. Fournier, a 19-year-old Montreal, Quebec, native and second round pick of the Blackhawks in 2012 is having a good season so far on the blueline with the Huskies collecting 17 points in 20 games. Girard, a 19-year-old from Cap-Rouge, Quebec, will make his debut for Team QMJHL and was a fourth round pick of the Predators in 2013. Girard attended Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Development Camp in August along with Hudon and Drouin.
In addition, Baie-Comeau Drakkar Head Coach Éric Veilleux will serve as an Assistant Coach for Team QMJHL alongside Dominique Ducharme and Head Coach Benoit Groulx.
The 2013 SUBWAY® Super Series is supported by CHL associate sponsors, Bank of Montreal and Old Dutch. All games will be broadcast nationally on Sportsnet with QMJHL games shown on TVA Sports.
