Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 22. Jones, now a three-time winner of this award, posted a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout win with a goals-against-average of .500 with a save percentage of .978 in two games.

Jones and the Hitmen opened their Husky WHL Eastern Conference Quarter Final playoff series against the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday night at home. Jones was perfect kicking aside all 21 shots fired his way to earn the shutout and second star of the game honours in the 5-0 game one win. On Sunday night in game two, Jones made 24 saves in the 2-1 win for the Hitmen.

Jones, a 19-year-old from North Vancouver, British Columbia, is in his third WHL season with the Hitmen. He led the WHL in regular season wins with 45 and tied for first with seven shutouts. His 2.08 goals-against-average was third best in the league and his .915 save percentage was tied for third best overall.

Nominated again from the QMJHL is last week’s winner Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats. In two opening round playoff games he posted two wins including a 5-0 shutout victory over the P.E.I Rocket on Saturday as second star of the game with 35 saves. Dan Spence of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting was also considered with a 1.44 goals-against-average and a .970 save percentage in two games highlighted by his 2-0 shutout win over the Plymouth Whalers Saturday night as first star with 52 saves.
