Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 4. Jones posted a 3-0-0-0 record with two shutouts and a 0.330 goals-against-average and a 0.986 save percentage.

Jones began his week on New Year’s Eve where he made 22 saves and was third star of the game in the Hitmen’s 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. On Saturday Jones kicked aside all 31 shots fired his way and was named the first star of the game as the Hitmen beat the Kootenay Ice at home 2-0. Jones finished his week on Sunday making 19 saves for the 6-0 win and second straight shutout at home beating the Medicine Hat Tigers. He was also named third star of that game.

Jones, an 18-year-old from North Vancouver, BC, is in his third season with the Calgary Hitmen. Jones leads all WHL goaltenders with 25 wins and five shutouts keeping the Hitmen amongst the CHL’s top ranked teams. His 1.92 goals-against-average through 31 games is a league-best and his 0.922 save percentage is second in the league. Jones was named the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 16. Earlier this season Jones signed an entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Nominated this week from the QMJHL is Charles Lavigne of the Quebec Remparts who went 2-0-0-0 with a 7-0 shutout win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens where he made 25 saves. Andrew Engelage of the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires was also considered for the award after posting a record of 3-0-0-0 that also included a 37 shutout win on New Year’s Eve in a 1-0 game against the Plymouth Whalers.
